Objective: Equip men and boys to learn about military history while facilitating brotherly bonding and substantive father-son interactions.
To accomplish this objective, this site will provide information and connect you with resources regarding the three components of the historical reenacting we do. These components are as follows:
1. Books & Films – You have to read the great military histories and soldier memoirs to know what happened and what it was like to be a soldier. Certain films can provide a visual supplement to this study, giving you an idea of what everything looked and sounded like.
2. Uniform & Equipment Acquisition – In order to accurately portray a soldier of the past you have to look and function like him. Towards this end, you must research the uniforms, equipment, and weapons of the target war and acquire realistic replicas or their substitutes. Then you have to know how to wear the clothing and gear, and how to operate the weapons.
3. Campaigns – Time in the field is the culmination of your study. It is your chance to connect with the experiences you studied and practice the skills you learned. It is also your opportunity to share memorable experiences with fathers and/or brothers.
On the Field of Battle is here to help you become a soldier. If you are a father, we have information that may help you take your sons into the field and encourage them to remember the brave soldiers and important battles of the past.
If you are an older brother, you can take the same resources and information and use it to lead your brothers. Shape them into a squad and bond with them. Be a good example, stand straight, be tough, and get stuff done. Life is serious, be inspired by soldiers of the past to work hard and strive for victory in all that you do – never leaving a comrade behind.
All of this has, and still is, helping us. We hope it helps you.
